Thanks for your reasoned comment, Ed. I kind of like something I saw Craig Ferguson say on the Late Late Show a few weeks ago and that I posted about here. Let's get the information, where the candidates stand on policies, then make our own decision and vote! I thought the Rick Warren forum was handled really well although I thought some of the questions were tricky. The candidates had a chance to present there views and there wasn't any of the foolishness that goes with these "debates."

I've watched Sen. Joe Biden for years on the Sunday talk show circuit and determined a long time ago that he loves the sound of his own voice. I have also learned that he can state things confidently as facts that don't have a clear basis in reality. I mean, this is the guy who came up with the United States of Iraq scenario!

But, I really don't care what Biden thinks, because he is not going to be the President. I do care what Obama thinks, not what Oprah thinks about Obama, if you see what I mean. I don't even care what Brian McLaren or my good friend Jim Henderson think about Obama.

I think we had a great lesson in the last week about how our democracy works and we can all see that partisanship almost makes it impossible for anything to be done. Whoops! got up on my soapbox again, sorry! :)

My first thought was to reply, "You betcha Charlie!" But now that I've gotten that out of my system...

You bring up a great point that the media has overdone it in many areas with Palin. While SNL's job is to latch on to the quirks of politicians, perhaps the Palin season is a bit extended. However, the main point here is the reasonable critiques of Palin by the media can be overshadowed by these minor points of speech and expressions. Republicans can then dismiss some of the glaring problems in order to defend Palin from the gotcha journalism of the elite media who mock her speech.

I've been thinking lately that Evangelicals should be filling in the role of offering a more sober look at Palin since we're the people she's supposed to appeal to. If we're one of the main targets Palin's aimed at, then we should help raise the public discourse about why we do or don't find her an appealing VP candidate.
